The good news: We are working on integration of your personal journal into the main news feature (web log) on the site. The editor will be empowered to "promote" an article by a member to the blog. The bad news: While we work on the upgrade we may need to hide some or all of your personal journal due to some technical incompatibilities. Temporary (we hope) inconvenience; permanent improvement. Mathias Tusiime, born 1974, is a self taught artist who started painting after he got a job as a grounds keeper at Makerere University. He came in contact with art students and became familiar with art materials. He quickly developed his own techniques and artistic ideas based on his love of nature and his childhood in rural western Uganda.
He developed methods of making paper from re-cycled materials he picked up in his job as a groundskeeper. He uses the recycled material for many of his paintings and prints. He has been profiled in The Independent Magazine and in New Vision newspaper.
His work has been shown in Nomo Gallery, Tulifanya Gallery and Makerere University Gallery In Uganda and at the Uganda Art Consortium Exhibition in Seattle in May 2009. One of his paintings was purchased by the Italian Embassy in Kampala. His work has appeared in shows in Amsterdam, Denver, Dallas, Texas and Seattle. He has been profiled in The Independent magazine and in New Vision newspaper.
